Physical Education

Health and Physical Education offers experiential learning, with a curriculum that is relevant, engaging, contemporary, physically active, enjoyable and developmentally appropriate. Integral to Health and Physical Education is the acquisition of movement skills, concepts and strategies that enable students to participate in a range of physical activities confidently and competently. In Health and Physical Education, students develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to support them to be resilient, to develop a strong sense of self, to build and maintain satisfying relationships, to make health-enhancing decisions in relation to their health and physical activity participation, and to develop health literacy competencies in order to enhance their own and others’ health and wellbeing.

French

The Australian Curriculum: Languages is designed to enable all students in Australia to learn a language in addition to English. The Australian Curriculum: Languages recognises that students bring their own linguistic and cultural background to their learning, whether this is English or the target language or various combinations of languages. At Paringa Park Primary School we offer French to all children across Reception to Year 6. For further information refer to: https://paringaparkpsfrench.weebly.com/

Science

The Australian Curriculum: Science provides opportunities for students to develop an understanding of important science concepts and processes, the practices used to develop scientific knowledge, of science’s contribution to our culture and society, and its applications in our lives. The curriculum supports students to develop the scientific knowledge, understandings and skills to make informed decisions about local, national and global issues and to participate, if they so wish, in science-related careers.

In addition to its practical applications, learning science is a valuable pursuit in its own right. Students can experience the joy of scientific discovery and nurture their natural curiosity about the world around them. In doing this, they develop critical and creative thinking skills and challenge themselves to identify questions and draw evidence-based conclusions using scientific methods. The wider benefits of this ‘scientific literacy’ are well established, including giving students the capability to investigate the natural world and changes made to it through human activity.

The ability to think and act in scientific ways helps build the broader suite of capabilities in students as confident, self-motivated and active members of our society.

Performing Arts

At Paringa Park Primary School we offer a specialist Performing Arts program under the leadership and tuition of Stephanie Hammond. This incorporates Dance, Drama and Music, three of the five components of The Australian Curriculum The Arts.

Stephanie provides a highly engaging, relevant and challenging learning program for children across Reception to Year 6 with additional optional opportunities including Junior and Senior Choir. An end of year Celebration Concert is held in Term 4 involving all classes.
